Pyrolyser
Pyrolyser EGA/Py-3030D
This Multi-Functional Pyrolysis System from Frontier Laboratories is a powerful tool to analyze virtually any liquid and solid sample. Amongst others, application areas are: polymer chemistry, characterization of materials, environmental and food science, forensic science, or paper manufacture and wood science.
In most cases a "direct" analysis without prior sample preparation is possible. The functional principle is simple, but effective. The sample is filled into a specially deactivated sample cup made of stainless steel (ECO Cup) and is introduced into the pyrolyzer furnace due to gravitational free-fall. The sample is heated from ambient to furnace temperature in less than 20 msec. Caused by increasing temperature chemical bondings are cracked and sample constituents are released into the gas phase depending on the boiling points. The compounds are transferred to the analytical column by carrier gas flow. Compounds are chromatographically separated and detected by MS, FID, AED or any further detectors.
A complete characterization of a complex material is a challenging task. For this purpose various thermal analysis techniques are feasible:
- Evolved Gas Analysis (EGA)
- Thermal Desorption (TD)
- Single-Shot Pyrolysis (Flash pyrolysis)
- Double-Shot Pyrolysis (Combined thermal desorption and pyrolysis at one single sample)
- Multi-Shot Pyrolysis (Repeated thermal desorption at one single sample)
- Reactive Pyrolysis (Thermal desorption or Pyrolysis with the addition of a reagent)
All operating modes can be performed automatically by means of an Auto-Shot Sampler (max. 48 samples). This permits an optimized sample throughput, which is effective in terms of time and cost saving and generally improves laboratory productivity.
With new developments the application area of pyrolysis system increases. For example, by means of the UV Irradiator it is possible to simulate photo/thermal-oxidative degradation processes at the surface of polymeric materials.
In addition, a special F-Search Software is available which utilizes patented search algorithms in order to identify unknown samples. Four special libraries are offered: EGA library, Pyrogram library, Additive library and Pyrolyzates library.
